according to some of their interviews the ambience is supposed to help tell a story between frances the mute, the mother and her children, cygnus, miranda, and cassandra

It was supposed to be laid out like a movie, so the songs are the exciting action parts of the movie, and the ambiance is the in between parts, like the dialogue and what not.

lol because god knows dialogue isn't exciting! if that was serious, then i'd be willing to bet my life you own every Michael Bay film.

This and De-Loused serve as two of my favorite albums ever, ridiculous that a band can craft two absolute masterpieces back to back (3 even? I have serious love issues with Amputechture as well). Ambience gets to be a bit much, but who cares when Cedric is wailing melodically all over your face with Omar setting the room on fire with his solos (ok, Frusciante =/..)

Although I consider both De-loused and Frances to be classics, Frances just has the edge for me. Probably due to the epic "Cassandra Geminni"!
