Alright thanks ill give that a jam. Not new to death metal, probably this style for me just needs more spins and time to find the nuances between songs and have them sink in

~~~I listened to SOP too, had the same vibes. Spun this a few times now. I mean its obviously technically great maybe it just needs more time to sink in given the style ~~~
@calcifer, exactly, even more for the non-initiated, dont rush it, like evilford said, give it more spin, space by time and other stuff you like, then more spin, often, time & slow steady ersistence can do a long run. But, after that, if you dont like it, it is ok, also. m/
( and the other good suggestions)
Alright, cheers guys good call - time to spin the discog from the start
Spinning the discog in order definitely gave me an even greater appreciation of this, to see how their sound logically and progressively evolved into the more spaced-out, melodic, but still brutally technical beast it is now.
I think they are just all-around striking the first few times you hear them, regardless of the album you start with. Nobody does it quite like ulcerate.
Any tips to dug this?
Focus on the drumming, that's usually what's guiding the songs (especially in the more chaotic sections), not the riffs, which kinda swirl and dance around the fills and change-ups.
|
| |
the drums are amazing but the guitar tracks are still the most important part of the compositions. forget riffs
I don't really disagree with you Shadow, but I think it's a little easier to figure out what the guitars are actually doing when you hear how they work their way through the drums, as opposed to the other way around.
I can't elevate one performance above another, everything was written so every instrument continuously plays off one another. Only "tip" I can give is to listen to how phrases develop as the tracks go along.
The clean guitar at the start of "There is No Horizon" lays the melodic foundation for the chorus, which in itself consists of harmonised variations. Every track does this to some extent but I think that's the best example.
ill give you the tip
