The change in mood is probably why i like it so much

I don't get why people say it sounds like an anthem though. I mean Rubicon is an anthem, this just changes to a more cheerful mood.

At that point in Gore's tracklisting, it needed a change of pace and LMIRL's was there to answer to call until it changed.

it blows my mind that people take issue with shit like (L)MIRL lyrics
you can honestly say you've never felt that way? you're acting like lost love is a strictly teenage concept or something

(L)MIRL was probably the track that translated the worst to a live environment, considering its one of my favorites on gore (altho it was surrounded by bangers from ATF and WP so it was always going to struggle to keep pace)

"oh my god who gives a fuck about lyrics"
A lot of people actually. This couldn't be any less ignorant

"This couldn't be any less ignorant"
I think you may have meant something different here...

why, if they work for the vocal melodies then how exactly are they deterring from your enjoyment of the album

I just can't get over somebody listening to a Deftones albums and actually being "put off" because of the words that Chino Moreno is singing, like to the point of docking the music as a whole and whatnot because of it

Offensively bad lyrics (see RATM, Limp Bizkit, etc.) actively pull me out of the music when I can make out what they're saying.

ok I should rephrase: "Who gives a fuck about Deftones lyrics"
of course it's still kind of an exaggeration but... not really
the dude needs a vehicle for his voice, and honestly unless you're actively analyzing I can't fathom being "offended" by this shit, in that way

To clarify I say "offensively" in the sense that they are embarrassingly awful and pathetic, not "These hurt my feelings."
ZdlR and Durst are thus "offensively" bad lyricists to me.

Chino's just kind of an early Michael Stipe type to me
it's about how's he's singing, not the actual words used to fill the meter
I'm not sure I even knew the actual lyrics to Hole in the Earth, the emotions conveyed kind of keep me from realizing while I'm listening that I don't actually have a clue what he's singing during those choruses

I feel you, It's not that I disregard chino's lyrics but clearly he's all about the execution which is practically flawless. I thought they were pulling my leg when someone posted those lyrics on here too, it does't detract from the song whatsoever though.
