I doubt it'll sound that similar
Still love that record. "Un-Reborn Again" is one of their best, despite the stupid-ass name

I didn't really like Villains either. It has a few bangers but it was a major drop off from this.

I like Villains' songwriting a lot, but the production is unfortunately very neutered. the songs sound much meatier and queensy in a live setting
and yes, nick was an essential component of this band for sure - sftd and rated r will never be replicated again

Hated Villains honestly

Villains was a joke and it makes me think the next album is going to suck as well.

The guitar 'solo' in the title track is fucking awesome. Such a unique sound, guitar sounds sad as hell but still somehow rock n roll,

just for neeka’s sanity because I feel for the guy…
I Appear Missing is one of the greatest rock songs of all time
Also seems unfair comparing QOTSA to virtually every other band I’ve seen mentioned, this absolutely surpasses other modern ‘conventional’ (ugh) rock records.
As an aside SFTD has also lasted me 20 years and is still going strong, virtually everything else I listened to at around that time has since been discarded. That tells me something.

Agreed. I tried TCV the other day and that shit just didn't stick at all.

I really enjoy TCV but it's not even close

Album Rating: 4.5
I thought the problem with TCV is that the first track absolutely rules and is one of the sexiest things Homme has ever written, then it has that awesome time signature shifting groove at the end and honestly nothing ever gets close to that track.
This is joint best Queens with SFTD

alright I've been tripping, I appear missing finally hit for me, what a song man
near death experiences are a goddamn bitch
|

you gotta listen to the LIVE AT WILTERN version of I Appear Missing, it's extended, more fleshed out, the solo in this live version is extremely sad sounding and Homme's vocals, imo this is the best version of the song they ever played: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KOU07347Pvo
|

Oh yeah that definitely had some of the better solo sections of all the live clips I've seen of that song

had forgotten how brilliant this is
one of the great rock albums of the 2010s

I’m bumping this to a 5. This thing is aging like fine wine for me

Yeah me too BP.
Saw them on this tour and when they did I Appear Missing it was stunning. I don’t think a moment within a live show has ever hit that hard for me as that little drum fill and then the wall of noise when the outro guitar lead kicks off.
