You don't like Sleep well beast Zak??

That's the one that got me into the National.

Nah mate. Too much nob twiddling for the sake of being something new. Lacks soul.

Alright that's fair.

It was the first one I heard so I didn't have anything to compare it to, and I dig the electronic vibes it adds at times.

Not a fan of SWB either on the whole (yet, I want to change). The less said about IAETF the better.

I may be underrating this a little, could see it eventually overtaking Alligator as my 3rd fave.

Bless ya.

I used to absolutely love this band, a fave. Now they irritate the tits off me. Having said that I’m listening to Alligator as I type and it’s still a great album.

For a flicker they really did have something.

Alligator and Boxer were great. Everything after Hi-Vi... yikes.

I haven't even heard I am easy to find outside of like two tracks. It's like to many National-ims for it's own good. And as a result I've always predicted it to be a boring slog.

It’s wine sipping, perusal of art bollocks by a bloke in shit glasses who should know better.

@Pika: giving this a 1/5 is absurd mate, just shows you don’t really get this band. In fact I remember someone (not you) claiming Alligator was the best because of the ‘energy‘ - similarly confusing statement. This band is all about energy, apparently.

Alligator is probably my favorite as of right now. Listening through Cherry Tree for the first time right now actually.

Alligator is their best, agreed. This gets monotonous and repetitive really quickly.

I’ve been with this band since Boxer but Beast deflated me to a point where I thought fuck it and I’ve never really looked back tbh.

High Violet was the best but Alligator is probably my fave now while listening to it in its entirety for the first time since what must be 2016. Blimey.

The individual nuances start to reveal themselves after repeated listens - as cliched as this term has become in relation to The National’s music... ‘it’s a grower’. There’s greater variation than one would initially think. There’s just a consistently familiar vibe or atmosphere.

In fact a black metal trvther calling this monotonous is kind of hilarious now I think about it.

I would've thought Pika just hated most things until I saw his chart. haha

Black metal is probably the stalest genre in existence tbh.

He deals in extremes. I actually agree with the little yella scamp a fair amount.

Weird rating scale though 😄.
