that scene in volcano where the fire fighter slowly sinks into the lava haunted me for much of my childhood. the idea of slowly being reduced to sludge while still alive, conscious, and screaming was such a horrific concept. now it's just so stupid.

"though the reason people disliked STP was that they supposedly ripped off other grunge bands"

STP's singer does sound like a poor man's Eddie Vedder though

Sonoma dude, I had the same experience, that shit kept me up at night when I was 8 y/o.

That and the scene in Osmosis Jones where Thrax pokes the maintenance worker and his face blisters up and explodes.

Don't worry, you can't sink into lava. You will just burn up on the surface.

STP was kicking around in San Diego as Mighty Joe Young long before Pearl Jam was a thing. Eddie Vedder was also living in San Diego at the time but then moved to Seattle to join the band that would turn into Pearl Jam and get a record deal because Seattle was blowing up. My theory is that Vedder was ripping off Scott Weiland all along.

Eddie is just a thousand times better than Weiland, and I don't even like Pearl Jam that much.

First two or three STP albums hold up pretty well. I don’t know much else after that, but I heard one of their new songs in the early 2000’s and it made me cringe.

Eddie Vedder basically stopped writing any melodies or hooks after Ten and Vs. Even if Weiland didn't have Vedder's power or range he atleast tried.
