This has been playing constantly the last couple of days. Magnificent record. I really like the ambient parts. The music feels more atmospheric/dark ambient/post rock than black metal.

not sure I see where you're getting dark ambient from

Definitely heavy helpings of post-rock/folk though

Yes, despite being a metal classic and having a lot of the traits of the genre, it doesn't feel like a metal album at all

I'll never forget being a freshman in college and hearing this for the first time. It was a frigid winter in Colorado and every track took my breath away.

I keep waiting for this album to suck balls. But somehow it stays just as good every time...

Better than ashes for sure. But "Fire Above, Ice Below" and "Not Unlike the Waves" are the best songs.

Pale Folklore is pretty amateurish ulver worship. I like it though.

Amateurish might be too harsh perhaps Unfocused.

All posts on this page (231) have been fucking stupid. You choose whether that includes this one.

But Agalloch are not amateurish, nor are they Ulver-worshippers? Surely that's abundantly clear in so many ways?

Also, this isn't dogshit. You're dogshit.

@BAG its better than neo-Behemoth

@Dimorphic I said the debut was amateurish. They have stated many times that they started making music because of Ulver, Katatonia and Bethlehem.

Just because X-band influenced you to embark upon your own musical journey, it doesn't mean that you're an X-worship band, though,which is my point.

Also, I completely disagree that Pale Folklore is an amateurish album, although it is my least favourite of the 'Big 3' of Agalloch's albums.

Fair. I just think the songs lack allot of structure. Especially The Melancholy Spirit which I always skip.
