It's an old painting and they put the drum on her face and made it their album cover. And everyone from then forth thought it
was the greatest thing ever.

The whole album has a pretty surreal feel to it. But cmon man, arguing about genres is lame and pointless.
|

thats fine but i mean it seems like a lot of Neutral Milk Hotel fans feel the need to justify their love of the album by making it seem all ~mystical~ and _transcendental_ and I don't know why, its a straight up indie folk album and theres nothing wrong with that. It doesn't meander into passages of chocolate pudding acid psychedelia and it doesn't crack the skies and break into celestial space rock riffs, it just indie folks hard and it doesn't need to do anything else to be the album you all love and enjoy so much

I like this album because I think its full of great fucking songs with great fucking lyrics that are
endlessly evocative and emotionally resonant. Faux-transcendental pseudo-intellectual bullshit and
pretentious musical wankery can get to fuck, I just this think this is a great fucking album.

I like the drums
