Do you think there's a certain year when albums start sounding generally dated? Like I can def tell an album from 10 years ago versus one now but 5 years is kinda iffy

Some albums from 2016 sounded dated right from the start

This album's aesthetics are beautiful, Gore would have a chance of measuring up if the production and mixing were the same as on here.

Yeah but I don't think better production/mixing would save Gore

some albums deliberately go for that retro (Atavistic?) style and production though so it can be hard to speculate, especially in metal. I can definitely tell that adrenaline and atf are 90's albums and WP wasn't made yesterday but that's about it for me if it had to guess.

a koi-level mix would have definitely helped gore

I think the same guy produced them both though

He's done good production elsewhere but Gore sounded pretty bad

Gore would have been amazing if it had been produced well.

lol the production on gore is not the best, but it compliments the album very well, c'mon.

Gore is standard Deftones songwriting except for a few places, where it could have been better.

"rarely hear something so lifeless"

it's like you couldn't be more wrong
