You could probably put a prefix to almost anything… I do agree that QOTSA are on the whole, pretty much on their own plane compared to groups that they’d naturally be put alongside in terms of genre (“Like this? Try these”—“pure” rock, or whatever).

I mean rock is its own genre separate from its various denominations

I'm not saying QOTSA are the most literal embodiment of no frills rock but they're closer to what some people would call "pure rock" than they are to, say, "indie-rock"



Oh and Foals are another good band that feel pretty rooted in rock to me
