Some albums are all conquering monoliths that are so big that the personal touch is diluted. The thing that is so eternal about this classic is that it still has a ridiculously powerful personal connection and you can still wear it like a badge.
There's only a handful of them knocking around.

can't believe i used to think this was mediocre. at this point i can't even remember why i might have ever thought that. the lyrics on this album are absolutely top-tier (especially time), and the melodies and atmosphere are perfect

I would rate it as a "5", but I'm afraid that would be a bit too low.

YOU SHOUT AND NO ONE SEEMS TO HEAR
AND IF THE BAND YOU'RE IN STARTS PLAYING DIFFERENT TUNES,

that's crazy
i'll never forget the time my buddy finally picked out this vinyl out of his dad's collection and put it on
the cover always stood out amongst them as beautiful but subtle and minimalistic, it always intrigued me however i was continuing to avoid the band pink floyd as i thought they were a 70's disco band

Yup. First time I jammed it I was 12-13 I think and I thought it was the most overrated album in the history of music. Put it aside for a couple of years, then tried again and did almost nothing for me. Then slowly it started growing on me and it really hit the spot somewhere around my mid 20s.

Dude that is exactly the same as me. When I was 13 years old dads and student pot heads lived by this album but it did absolutely nothing for me whatsoever and just came across as a relic. Then in my mid to late 20s it absolutely swept me away.
I've recently found with London Calling something ridiculously special about it. I've had that for about 12yrs and despite adoring The Clash always found that album a bit shit, even during my time on sput I think I've on occasion said its the most overrated album of all time but I absolutely love it at the min.
Just goes to show music is a force, never say never.....unless it's TDAG.

Oh definitely. Yeah never understood what's the big deal with TDAG but you never know I guess haha. I recently jammed London Calling again but didn't do much for me to the point where I lost interest after 4-5 songs. Will try again though.
