Ken Bedene is not even top 100. Good but not more than that.. nothing distinctive or special about him (as about his band).

Flo is great yeah but he's also super untidy.

Weird I've aways thought his drumming was incredibly tight

He somehow has the reputation for being untidy.. but I also don't really agree seeing him play three times and being in awe every single of these times

"Quit it" - His beats arent exactly in time, which you would expect from a drummer (Necrophagist, for example). Christ, just listen to Crown Of Horns. I love Flo, but making bullshit arguments for him is ridiculous

He's a fucking beat machine of greatness. Also bringing Necrophagist of all bands up while discussing Flo is strange lol

Also chivo that's dope you've seen them 3 times! I've only seen them once but it was a tour where they did None So Vile front to back and it was one of the best sets I've seen. If it would have been Mr. Worm on vocals it woulda likely been my favorite set of all time tbh. Ruled either way though and dude that's on vocals now is actually pretty solid live at least

yeah, I saw them once touring for whisper supremacy... pure madness. Other two times were in the more recent past. Playin a good mix of old stuff and their latest albums. As I really dig their s/t and the 'recent' EPs I was very fine with these setlists.

Not at all. They're both tech death bands (although obviously Necro are pretty exceptional in that regards), and both use similar drumming techniques. Flo struggles to stay truly in time, and the over-use of fills actually takes away anything that would anchor the craziness on display. I love Flo, he is probably my favorite drummer, but to call him one of the "best" is ridiculous. He simply isn't tidy enough

They're both tech death bands sure but really for me at least they are at extremely different points sound wise within the genre. I'm also no drum expert but honestly the real sterile, mechanistic sound Necrophagist has in every aspect of their sound is way different than the "train about to derail" style that makes Cryptopsy one of my favorites. Love both bands though, they're just the last grouping I would reach to lump together in conversation.
I'd have to think long and hard to determine my favorite drummer list but Flo would be up fairly high for me at least. I tend to like more loose playing though really and also enjoy myself some excessive ass fills. Never paid a ton of attention to drumming until I started attending live shows a bunch and quickly realized how quick a band can become dull as hell without a great drummer backboning it

ive thought for a while now that the most important member of a metal band is the drummer.

I think I'm with you there these days. I'm a guitar guy thru and thru but if the drummer sucks it's really hard for any band to pick up that slack
