Yah, I learned about that cat from anime, he could get shot in the head still live, funny dude.

new album confirmed for April 1st and it's apparently a dubstep remix of 10000 Days to make it more relevant to the current times

"Why is the observer outside the quantum system?"
I like it. None of the yt videos I have seen (yeah I know) mention this problem.
Maybe because it's a stupid question, but on my level it seems profound.

It's one if those questions that seems silly on the surface, like "where does consciousness go when we sleep", until you realise that no one has been able to adequately answer it.

I don't get it, why would consciousness go anywhere? Your mind's aware to a degree while you're asleep whether you remember it after or not. And I don't buy Schrodinger's Cat, the cat is either dead or alive and your mind has little to do with it. Plus cats have 9 lives so statistically they will be ok. This is hard science unlike quantum physics which is mostly a hoax

"It's one if those questions that seems silly on the surface, like "where does consciousness go when we sleep", until you realise that no one has been able to adequately answer it."
I don't think our consciousness really has to "go" anywhere though, not anymore than our consciousness actually goes somewhere else when we daydream. There's a lot of things science can't yet fully explain, e.g. what the purpose of REM sleep actually is, or what causes NDE's or OBE's. And I think that's a huge problem when it comes to peoples' arguments in the whole new age/pseudoscience movement.
People think that just because something isn't fully understood by science, that it must be paranormal. Sort of like sleep paralysis, which was once thought (still is by some people) to be demons, spirits, or curses -- but of course now we know that it's (to simplify it) just from waking up in the middle of a REM cycle and basically being only "half-awake" in a sense.
Anyway, I need to look more into that many minds interpretation. I don't profess to be a physicist, but I think I get the gist of what you're trying to explain. I don't think it necessarily implies anything about spirits, unless you're equating consciousness with spirit (or I'm unclear on something). I know you were just trying to summarize though, so I'm going to look more into that whole theory.

Good question! Minute differences in mass or something? Combination of their subparts?

It appears that you misunderstand both consciousness as well as the Schrodinger's Cat. In a biological sense yes, your brain is still functional when you sleep. However, where are YOU? Where is Artiswar? Where are his thoughts, his memories, his personality, his emotions etc? You might remember your dreams but you are very, very rarely YOURSELF in your dreams. Hence, the weird question of where consciousness goes when you are un-conscious. I'm not going to do a great job of explaining this, but it's worth learning more about. Trust me.
And secondly, Schrodinger's Cat is a thought experiment (which was actually meant as a joke) to illustrate the absurdity of subatomic quantum phenomena at a macroscopic level. Of course (your rational brain tells you) the cat can't be both AND alive. However, and I assure you it's no hoax, subatomic particles are perfectly capable of existing in multiple states simultaneously and there's a century of research to prove this. However, we also know that human interference, vis a vis interference through direct observation, collapses these particles into one or the other of those mutually exclusive states. No one has an answer for why this is and the Mind hypothesis is just one of the possible answers for this. It's not even the most popular answer because it raises other weird philosophical questions, but it's a fairly rational conclusion to come to, all things considered.

Yeah I'm not actually espousing any of the wacko healing crystal bullshit brand of quantum mysticism. I'm merely pointing out that certain aspects of believing in a mind/soul that transcends physical phenomena have a rational basis for belief thanks to quantum mechanics. As I pointed out above to Artiswar, it's not even the most popular interpretation of quantum phenomena (what would be the Many Worlds Hypothesis, because multiverses are fun! xD) but it's a possible explanation.
