I Appear Missing is among the greatest pure "rock" songs I've ever heard

^ Agree, it’s a beaut. Closing two songs on this elevate the whole thing immensely.

Probably their best work and probably the most well produced modern rock albums of our time.

Agreed with any and all praise for this. As someone who grew up listening to my dad's classic rock from the 60s and 70s whilst thinking that rock's pinnacle is pretty firmly in the past, this stands as a shining example of modern rock done well.

Shitty bands mostly. My scope of modern rock leans heavy into the mainstream: Foo Fighters, Royal Blood, Nothing But Thieves, The Killers, Muse, Shinedown, et al. Basically anything rock that you couldn't attach a prefix to (so excludes what I'd consider indie-rock, post-rock, etc)

I'm aware of what the follow up criticism will be, but I'm ready to stand by this against just about any album mainstream or not.

muse had some fun songs in the 00s i genuinely think theres a real similarity between how qotsa do some melodic choruses and how muse did them

Yeah I mean bands like Jet, Wolfmother, and Greta Van Fleet are basically just classic rock cover bands

I don't really get Muse vibes from this, but I do agree that OoS/Absolution/BHaR Muse was fantastic

The Voidz, Wolf Alice, Foxing, Manchester Orchestra, Algiers, Copeland idk there's plenty of great rock out there

I know I'm in the minority but rock music's as good as it ever was if you look for it

I'd consider Wolf Alice and definitely Foxing/MO to be pretty firmly within the indie-rock sphere

I know indie isnt supposed to mean anything but there's definitely an "indie sound" that separates them from straight up rock acts

I'm gonna be honest. I don't get the hype for The sensational alex harvey band
