For Ohms, I gave it a 5 based upon 10+ listens. I had some listens where I questioned whether or not this album is a 5 for me or not. I thought The Spell of Mathematics dragged a little bit until I really felt the SNW vibes on the track, the chill post-rock outro. I thought the chorus on Radiant City was jarring at first, until I realized the Shudder To Think influence on the genre-bending of the chorus. It goes from djent into dream metal. I thought Headless sounded too much like Gore, specifically, the outro to Rubicon in the chorus. If I were to pick the weakest track on the album, it is Headless because that track could have easily been on Gore which kind of deters from the experience. I got over that when I realized they didn't use the same chord progressions for Rubicon and Headless. That is why I have given the album a 5.

"For Ohms, I gave it a 5 based upon 10+ listens." me too, but before I had it 4.5d...and initially I made a 4 in my mind.

"When non-fans of the band rank the album lower than it should be kinda ruins the experience on here."
I mean, this applies to any band on this site, right? My thought is as long as someone approaches an album objectively then it's fine. I personally cannot stand Deafhaven, but every album I've rated of theirs I've given it a fair chance before rating. If you're rating an album based on a single or a preconceived bias you're doing this site a disservice.

I’m not reading the vast majority of comments here and that wall of text is no different.

I completely agree with you. I try to accurately rank every album I listen to.
I was also moody about watching the overall ranking for this album slip. I've paid attention to the ranking 2 months before the album released. I was trying to saying something along your lines.

"Nothing but a bunch of cacophonous manatee chirping noises on top of putrid noise feedback. The lead singer sounds like he had a stroke. It sounds like garbage, give it to your children."

That's why for me when 4.5-5 something I don't mind the avg being 3.8-3.9. Down from there I'll prob start getting threadpissed.
Some albums/bands are indeed hard to get into and that is somewhat reflected in some avgs - others are just bad...

You are completely right. I was afraid of the album dropping below a 4. It would be nice if it stayed at 4.2.

"everyone is biased all the time including u"
That's true, but if you're going to go through the trouble of rating an album or listening to it you might as well say to yourself, "I haven't enjoyed these past aspects of the band, but if that changes then I might like this album!"
That way you have a bias but you address it rather than just downrating albums because you dislike the band or ASSUME the album will sound like all their other stuff.
