these guys clearly had a huge influence on crippling alcoholism, who are set to fill the void since they broke up

This is so much better than CA, they’re not in the same league.

they absolutely are, although i would agree that this tops whatever genre this is
shame things turned out the way they did because it's hard to ever go back to this

Nah, this album is still amazing, while I just don’t get the hype about CA. But I’ll check them at a festival this Summer, I’m curious to see what they got to offer live. I guess you rated this Demon before the band got cancelled? I’m surprised that you didn’t like it.

Yep, before. This is dull. It lacked menace and 'edge', which is ironic cos this seems weightier in an actually evil sense considering what happened (then again, I shan't be listening to confirm nor deny this possibility).
I did however enjoy some of their earlier material, the s/t LP especially.

CA is not even in the same stratosphere as this record. Keep hearing this ‘filling the whole that daughters left’ but no one can. One of the albums of that decade and an unbelievable live act and a tremendous front man until it came out what a horrendous POS he is also. Haven’t listened to this since then. But to say it lacks edge or menace is wild to stuff like ocean song clearly doesn’t lack any menace

to be fair CA's last album wasn't all that great to me and that's one definitely sounds more like this era of Daughters, than anything they did previously imo. idk I think this goes for dark and 'unsettling' and I failed to ever be convinced by the mood it was trying to convey. All rather tame and comfortable without the extra unwanted context. I can certainly see how it may translate in a live setting tho.
