I'd change the track listing in their past three albums tbh, the three before them are on another level even though the quality hasn't dropped of that much or anything.

Idk a band like this, or at least an album like this, doesn’t need any help with the flow. The vibe is already set. I’d cut at least the tracks Talons mentioned and never look back.

After lamenting my love for and championing 'Alligator' all this time (which is undeniably a great album still), this has done nothing but steadily grow on me. Finally had "that moment" today where everything just clicked. Couldn't find a single, notable fault with anything, and as 'Hard to Find' was playing I knew this was indeed my favorite National album despite what I'd been telling myself all along. Had to make the (well-deserved) bump to 5.0.
'I Should Live in Salt' is now my most scrobbled track on last.fm

I love when you experience "that moment" with an album. It's pretty much happened with all of their albums for me, barring the first two and IAETF.

Lamenting your love for Alligator? Why for, it's the GOAT.

I dunno, it seems like most people I talk to go for either Boxer or High Violet with Alligator as a third or fourth choice. I know it’s got a similarly high score here and on RYM, yet most of the people I converse with wouldn’t place it as #1 or even #2, so I’ve always felt that maybe I was missing something in their other albums. Perhaps lament wasn’t a great word, but I’ve always been hesitant to claim ‘Alligator’ as my favorite lest it seem like I clearly don’t know what I’m talking about. Obviously this is all anecdotal, as it seems the Alligator crew is alive and well here (which is a good thing).
But now I’ve moved it down to #2, haha.

I understand that Boxer love but I don't think I'll ever place it on top, still amazing tho
as for Alligator I don't think I'll ever grow tired of it, High Violet would be my close second

Alligator is probably also my 2nd favorite after TWFM, tectactoe. High Violet is third.

You and I pretty much in lockstep then; I’d agree with that and put Boxer fourth. (All of which I consider great or better albums.)
