Cheers, will do! Alligator is still my favourite by them, with Boxer being a VERY close second.

Sorrow, Slipped and Vanderlyle are all top 10 National
I think Pika sees the National as a malfunctioning Killers - ‘if only they could stay more upbeat and peppy darn it’
Clueless

The Killers suck lol wtf
Sorry if I didn't make myself clear enough: by lively, I didn't mean upbeat. I meant their songs were lacking in intensity and directionless on this particular record. Not the same thing. I am totally okay with depressive/moody songs. Just don't expect me to like something with lazily done transitions or build-ups leading into something akin of rainbow musical farts.
I've said this before and I'll say it again - no matter how good the lyrics are in a rock record, they'll never be able to save the album if the rest of the band are barely trying and are just basically using drum fills or guitar passages that sound like they've been written in a garage over a bloody tea break or hi-jacked from sheet music 101.

Also Driver, Surprise Me was very nice. I enjoyed it quite a bit. And they didn't even play Slipped live in their DVD, which has like a bazillion songs. Surely, that means that most fans agree that it's not even a top 30 song.

I try. I wasn't talking about the band, by the way. Just this album. And congrats on the most retarded response.

Cut out like 4 songs and this is a perfect album.
They seem to add 1-2 more useless/bad songs to the tracklist of each album after.
Could be a great band.

PS I am drunk. Anyone know how to play any instruments because I can bitch in a very non-chalant way in my soccer cleats so we could basically do this.

This has been my fav National since I first heard it but I've been falling deeper in love with Boxer lately. It's a toss-up at this point.

Boxer and HV are their only two albums with no skippable tracks imo

Boy what you be skipping on this one
If anything I’d consider “Racing Like a Pro” from Boxer closer to skippable than anything here...but nah that one’s still pretty essential.

Fireproof, Slipped, Heavenfaved are my least favs on here. They aren't bad or anything, but there's too many slow dreary songs on here and it gets tiresome. That's obviously worse on I Am Easy to Find, and with more skippable tracks. SWB has better energy but also drags in the middle.
Even Alligator has some soso ones like Astronauts and Friend of Mine. Boxer and HV on the other hand are both perfectly flowing masterpieces.

Hm, I actually think those three here are pretty essential to the flow, I personally love the slightly more subdued feel this has compared to the previous few, they help give this a really lovely nocturnal atmosphere and I don't think I would love the album as much without them ("Slipped" especially is classic Natty any way you cut it imo).
