because the breakdowns are the lowest common denominator breakdowns imaginable lol

its like they took the blandest aspects of all the sounds they wanted to blend and mixed them in a blender with extra spoonfuls of beige. if this wanted to succeed as a pop album the least it could do was have hooks!

Every song has a hook I couldnt forget if I tried lmao, I dont get how you dont like the chugs, all of a sudden you're too high and mighty for a simple chuggy riff, as if Silent Planet has not written a similar riffs in the past, but wait, you love it when they do it

well silent planet had actual riffs once upon a time

and yea im generally more selective about them, where you seem to like chugs literally no matter what and cannot discern when they add something of value or do nothing lol. doesnt mean i have to drop my standards to the floor

But the chugs here do do something, they act as big grand climactic moments to the songs. I've gotten more used to metal going from one extreme to the other, I used to hate Make Them Suffer Contraband because it was heaviest riffs into the lightest chorus imaginable, now it doesnt bother me. I do agree with Venin in this being very crescendo based music, first, the pop sections draws your interest, then the chugs seal the deal, it's the juxtaposition between the two that I enjoy most.

Your ears must be full of cement compadre. His voice isn't to everyone's taste, but he's a great singer.

Im genuinely curious why this album blew up and not the million other genericore albums that come out of every year. Did they first get big on tik tok or something?

Because they consistently write pop hooks better than most other genericore bands. Their stage kit is honestly kinda baffling though, it’s beyond contrived.

name one 'generic' bm band anyone on this page listens to
>reeks of a mentality i wish would sincerely go away in music discourse
would be much more sympathetic to this argument for this band if their defenders didn't have such uniquely dogshit reference points for their genre cocktail outside (and tbh inside) of metal, which this page has reinforced nicely

Just like you, I have a dismissive outlook on genres I dislike. I think all black metal is boring and sounds the same, you think all modern core music sounds the same. To me this is unique from other bands, this kind of vocal with 8 string chugs has simply never been done before, and that by definition is a unique quality.

> you think all modern core music sounds the same
> unanimously decided aoty 2023
receipts bitch
> and that by definition is a unique quality
and more receipts for when you started actively valuing originality in music (rly not a card you have to pretend to play)
> this kind of vocal with 8 string chugs has simply never been done before
...and even then, fucking coheed and cambria have a better claim here lol
