Of all the characters in this site, I've never understood why someone spends time posting several comments on threads for albums they don't like.

I think the only time to really go to town like that is when something's just been released as the threads will be a lot more mixed at that stage as people are trying the album out. Then it's fair game, it's part of the hustle and bustle discussion of early opinions.
If it's an interesting critique then I welcome that any time, though multiple posts not required.
If it's a funny critique then similar, with the idea that brevity is the soul of wit.
If it's a 1 rating and 'lolbad'-level repeated shitposts then, eh, even the Doof is above that.
Most of the time.

it often inspires a much better discussion than your usual circlejerk. i generally like when people come in threads with differing opinions

except usually it's just beating a dead horse. certain folks will pop into a thread every few pages with a comment like "album is still trash"

still more fresh than just "rules" followed by four other people saying the same thing. obviously, neither of these extremes make for a good thread

Man I thought I really loved Graceless, but this current listen is proving that wrong: it just now really clicked with me completely.
I was blind, but now I see.

sup tuma, I checked out Sea of Love. Definitely better than Slipped, guess I picked a retared place to revisit the album. The middle section of the song could use some more fleshing out, but otherwise, it's pretty good, yeah. Which one should I go for next?

Artuma, I dunno about that. I happen to like congregating with other fans of an album I’m listening to, even if the discussion is limited to “I love it too”. Makes the listening experience feel less insular (tho sometimes insular is exactly what I want).
Ofc a great discussion is better but those can be hard to start.

Pika, speaking of, go for Graceless. It’s another more lively track on the album.

Yeah, they do lively a lot better than their more primitive stuff like Sorrow or Vanderlyle. Will check out and report back.

I was tripping on shrooms at the National show in Hamilton and concluded that Graceless is the purest expression of who the National is and what they do.

Listened to Graceless. It was okay, I suppose. My major gripe with it was that the initial build up was a bit too long - they should've either thrown more stuff in the mixer before the first chorus or just cut down that part altogether. The second bridge also doesn't really work for me. It's like they didn't even try. Sorry about that. Still not as bad as Slipped though. Why even put the travesty on the album?
I am starting to remember why I didn't like this album as much. I mean, it's almost got the same average on RYM as Sad Songs, and that certainly tells a story. Their previous stuff is just more engaging altogether, better written, better structured. Everything just falls into place magically.
Gonna listen to Demons next. Stay tuned.

Just randomly ran across Driver, Surprise Me. What a great song.
@pika, it’s from the Alligator era and has the feel/sound of that album. Check it out man, it’s on Spotify with the Abel single.

Also, Sorrow is probably a top 10 National Song.
