I find this album to be very relaxing.

Benighted is kinda similar to that Camel song, but I like it a little more tbh.
That ABBA ripoff is far worse imo

ABBAAA!!!!
Where did they rip off ABBA? Never realised that!

Sometimes I prefer this to Blackwater Park. Not a bad song here.

every few pages = Opeth steals riffs
but the real question is.. can any other band steal a riff with such finesse?

This one @Trif: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5mHzaIehRTE
I had this one worse in mind tbh, but I think it's still worse than the Camel worship, because that melody is so essential to the song
Edit: No one steals riffs and melodies with such a finesse as Opeth did! No one!

You have be an elite prog connoisseur to steal those riffs.

Hahaha beautiful Kalk! I love ABBA so no prob for me.
This is a good comparison vid I found https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rqjnVX7kM7c
The tried and tested 'no single artist doesn't borrow in any way shape or form from someone else' argument is still valid I'd say. Still, some of these are very much one to one.

True but there is a distinguishable difference IMO to both the artist and often times listener, whether or not a melody was subconsciously influenced by vs. consciously "ripped off" and altered (Benighted for example).

''Only so many riffs in the sea :[''
This is a truly depressing thought.
Luckily there's a huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge number of possibilities.

Iommi should have trademarked chugging the low E.

That would have killed so many genres before they even existed. And with "genres" I mean metal. Kind of like a low E condom

At the risk of potentially ruining a sacred entity, which Opeth song rips off ABBA? Not sure if I've heard the ABBA song contained within that link and I don't currently have access to sound. A forewarning may also be slightly more bearable than hearing it for myself, I may even be able to pretend it never happened.
