Well for some reason Mikael went from a very reserved winger to way overconfident and oversinging. Also Akesson and Axenrot basically act as enablers since they’re basically elite mercenaries, and whatever retarded idea mikael gets, they execute.
But yeah no Undertow rules. The end of Bottom is fire

Undertow is amazing and was one of the first albums that really got me into music (The Downward Spiral And Superunknown also)...but this is a better album.

Album Rating: 4.5
Nah.
This is a 5 and Undertow is a 4.5 so how is that possible?
But tbh, I feel uncomfortable saying Undertow isn’t as good as something else because it’s still one of the best albums ever made and perhaps the single most important album in igniting and fostering my love for music.
So stop it. No mas.

This album is clean as a whistle while Undertow is down 'n' dirty. I prefer the rawness of Undertow by far, but they're nearly impossible to compare.

If you think Opeth is a one man show now you could argue it always was a one man show. I don't agree with those statements though.
Plus we know Mendez didn't like the Watershed PT.2 Mikael had written at first and urged him to try again, and Heritage came out. So we know this new direction is as much Mendez's as Mikael's decision.

I heard this is a pretty comfy 3.7

The demos for that album are gonna end up as Opeth's All Lights Fucked On the Hairy Amp Drooling

lol my bad guys i meant to write: "nobody else could write songs this long and still get this kind of mainstream attention/sell out arenas."
i mean no matter how you feel about TOOL its still pretty cool to see a product like this impact the mainstream.
their fanbase is pretty insufferable but the guys have continued to do whatever they want for their entire careers and have achieved crazy success on their own terms. idk i've got to respect it.
jones is also a super smart guy. read a recent interview with him where he was talking about how he tries to experience new art with the same mindset he had when he was 12 years old, because when he was 12 he could remember just enjoying/being interested by everything. the guy has really cultivated his own voice on guitar and it's cool to see him really getting the chance to let go on tracks like Descending and 7empest.
