@vult: yeah you have a point - my mindset at the time this dropped (and for an embarrassing amount of time after) was influenced by people in certain groups I frequented feeling some sort of need to constantly "dunk" on me when I'd post positive opinions about albums I loved. they'd promote stuff like this, so i gave it a go to see how it did on me because i wanted to remain there but find some sort of common ground we could focus on

i put myself out there as a means to find community, IRL very few people know about the music i love so the net felt like my escape, so the peer-pressure issue crept up because i sought to avoid further embarrassment for my "shit" taste. i wanted to see what others saw but eventually i got too cynical

believe me i know where you are coming from - i have like one friend to talk music with but other than that sites like this are a great place to discover and discuss. but at the end of the day, no one is using your opinion about something to attack you, they are using your reactions to them either trolling or being mean as ammunition against you. best thing to do is just try to gravitate towards users and threads with better people in them i guess

at the end of the day, its sad for someone to shit on you for a pretty silly reason, but it is sadder for you to let that influence how you view and score things on something so subjective. you're not the only one that likes things that the majority of people dont, and thats okay. as long as you are happy and not hurting anyone else with it, who gives a shit?

also, if you suspect a negative response to your opinion of something, just refrain from putting a target on your own back.

yeah i think i went through a period of wondering if it was me who was the problem and everyone else dunking was right, so i thought I needed to cleanse my palate of all the "garbage" I loved, but then it all came back and i sorta realized that was a waste of time. i am me, i like what i like, if someone calls it garbage they're well within their right, i was too stuck trying to please everyone but was risking losing my true self in the process
