Meh, still doesn't touch the likes of real poets like Coleridge. Doesn't touch 'em... probably couldn't even fetch 'em a pen. Forget the paper.

While there are definitely far more great poets than songwriters, I find lyrics put to music far more powerful.

Dan Bejar is one of the great lyricists currently working, he has that way of just making words sound delicious. They usually revolve around themes but are more nonsensical than yer Dylan's, Berninger's, etc



The phrase I'm grappling for is 'arty bollocks' lol - but he's one of the best since Malkmus and tbh he's less of a one-trick pony than Malkmus.



Will Oldham is pretty awesome at what he does too.



In terms of the lyricists who are less poetic and more story tellers Matt Johnson of The The and Willy Vlautin of Richmond Fontaine are my favourites.
