Cool how "electronic" includes both The Prodigy and Stockhausen.

Well of cause I needed further knowledge to infer that from the terminology. Not that my opinion on the name is an original one.

How are genre names any more bizzare than most words? The root of most words are pretty odd and meaningless.
Also "post-rock". Did rock die or something?

alright dude if you're gonna go that far, repeat your name over and over until it doesn't sound like a name anymore and everything you knew about anything means nothing

i think it was in a Burzum news article where someone said “shoegaze” was “throwing shoes at gay people”.
That comment has never left me

shoegaze is a pretty cool name if the stories are to be believed. basically the bands looked like they were staring at their shoes when performing because of all the effects pedals they had to manage

I thought it was more because they wanted to let the music speak and not do silly stage things.
According to legend, the most hardcore shoegaze bands would play with their backs to the audience.

Yep, I remember thinking it was the most ridiculous genre name (at the time), but then when I discovered it's supposed origins it started to make a lot more sense... if only a similar thing would happen with regards to the actual music.

Shoegaze is very much a pleasant and unassuming genre for me, it does absolutely nothing to offend me, yet it doesn't make me clamour for more. This is a perfectly 'nice' experience. However I do like some dream-pop and there is an obvious connection between them, so it's entirely possible I could enjoy it more than I currently do, presumably.
