Can't imagine starting on the Opeth discography. Such a mountain to climb, but the view is magnificent. Such majestic peaks.

I'm currently re-listening to it all.

I've always heard of Opeth but never got into them really. Then in 2015 my buddy gifted me a CD of this album for my birthday and I've been hooked ever since. It's pretty challenging to get the overall scope of this band considering the massive discography they have.

This is definitely one of the best starting places for people wanting to get into the band, accessible yet diverse musically
|

It's cool agreed, but I think this is one of the hardest to get into because it's so intricate. Ghost Reveries or Blackwater Park are more accessible I'd say.

Yea, Ghost Reveries is a good place to start, this one isn't that easy at all. BWP isn't as easy on the ears as GR, but it's a little more accessable than SL. Watershed was my starting point
|
| |
Oh yeah, Watershed is a great entry point too.
I think those three albums (Watershed, BWP, GR) are more representative of their most well-known sound too, this is a little more folksy and murky than they became during their prime.

I feel like I should 5 this

The double header of the Moor and Godhead’s Lament makes this a 5/5 alone.
|
| |
Moor is one of their best songs
|
| |
First two are top 20 or so, yeah.

Moor is indeed a five, but then it goes downhill for me. It just doesn't give me that rush - I'm an addict and for some reason this doesn't satisfy my needs like other Opeths.
3.5 is probably my harshest rating though, aint nobody gonna believe that.

Totally agree Egarran. This is universally loved, most people consider it top-3 or so, but for me it doesn't do a lot after Godhead's Lament. White Cluster is greeaat too though, but that's about it. Moonlapse is forgettable, Face of Melinda is overplayed...

Yea, actually kind of super fucking amazing.
"I see you kalk. I see you."
Thanks man. Even if Benighted is similar to this Camel song it's still amazingly beautiful. The album is kind of front loaded now that I think about it

I listened to this again the other day and it blew my mind as per usual... thought it might have worn off slightly by now. It takes so much discipline not to just spin this every day, trying to preserve it's greatness.
