Yea, MoP was a little bit of a slump tbh and then they came back with this fucking monster. Not a pleasant record, but one of their absolute best.

Exactly. Am on TLitD now. Too bad the peosuction is ass, ao might have to bump it down to a 4, but it is easily their best. Second half of Frayed ends killed me. Holy Shit so good. As for the «not pleasant» part, theoretically unpleasant is more often than not a good thing for me hahah.
Edit: Done now, and actually, with bass (I’m listening to a bass added version on YT) this is a 5, so 4.5 it is. Damn, what a beastly album!

Listened to a great "The Shortest Straw" cover by Mexican thrashers Tulkas, and I have to say the guitar volume is just about optimal...

I don’t know if I’m drinking the kool aid but I feel like the bass is significantly more audible on the remaster that I see on Spotify

Idk man, as far as I'm concerned there isn't any bass and that's pretty much confirmed. It's not a remix either, just a remaster

Yeah dude, I've given the remaster several listens through on Spotify and I'm definitely not hearing any bass on there, don't think it was amplified or boosted one bit.

I'll never understand why Metallica stopped working with Rasmussen... like if it ain't broke why fix it?

Metallica saw mainstream success with this album when One hit #35 on the Top 40 chart. That was unheard for a metal band. They saw the money roll in and actively sought after a producer that could help them achieve their goal. They were also allegedly upset with this album’s sound, and they already had fired Rasmussen on MOP but begrudgingly brought him back last minute when his replacement was also fired. So they already didn’t want him and were only working with him because they were forced to. I agree that he’s an awesome producer.

That sucks, I hope the two work together again someday. I like the Bob Rock era of Metallica but the Rasmussen era is on a completely other level.
