It must be noted that there is an inherent irony though that a lot of hardcore Trivium fanboys who disliked The Crusade claim that Trivium is a thrash band. The irony of course being that now that Trivium are actively ripping off real thrash bands, a certain percentage of their fans have turned on them. The most common complaint: no screaming. Proving that these so-called fans are just scene kiddies who only look for the stuff that offends the most old people while still containing enough hooks to get on the radio.

I am unlike most because I have not hated Trivium all along. I enjoyed Ascendancy very much and thought it was great and listen to it frequently...but what the Hell happened, this is utter generic crap
To answer the first question, thrash metal relies on creating a feeling of almost violent spontaneity. Of all genres of metal, it has the highest riff emphasis. The bass tends to be low in the mix, and vocals aren't considered nearly as important as the guitars. It combines the intensity of metal with the visceral approach of hardcore punk.
Well put. Thrash usually also exercises some of the dumbest lyrics in all of metal. Dumb as in very, very simple and straight up, which is why I enjoy them so much

Wow, a 1 review that 40 of 40 said was well written. I'll definately skip this one. The only thing I liked about Ascendency was their guitar solos and this review says their gone! *gasp*

Woah now, I didn't say they were gone. This album has tons of solos. What I meant was that unlike Ascendancy, the solos aren't nearly as grabbing. On their last album the shredding kept the album from becoming a complete whereas on this the damage was far too severe to be rectified by a few wankfests here and there.

Come on now, how are you gonna tell me that these are bad?!
"I want to kill you, Take away your life in torture as you die"
Anyway, Cannibal Corpse lyrics are like 5x worse than any thrash metal band. This Message Edited On 11.30.06

But I think we can agree that even Cannibal Corpse lyrics are better than Trivium lyrics.

Slowly turning me, into a flesh eating zombie. Knowing this spell can only be broken by the vaginal skins of young women"

"All the pain in this world, Won't stop us now. For we have each other. All the hate in this world, Can't tear us apart, This love is forever"
I don't know about you guys, but I prefer talk about a flesh-vaginal-eating-zombie than getting a lecture ripped straight from Barney...This Message Edited On 11.30.06

@ Grant: They're both pretty bad, if you ask me.
Yeah, but at least in the case of Cannibal Corpse they're not trying so hard and making it so obvious. To say that I could crap out better lyrics than Trivium would be an insult to my digestive tract.

We should probably lay off quoting all the YouTube interpretations....
Oh, who am I kidding?! The interpretations are the only thing that can make even one bar off of this brain tumor of an album worth listening to.

I dont understand firstly why magazines and fans are calling them Thrash and secondly why theyre being called the next Metallica?
Theyre clearly nowhere near thrash, people dont know what thrash is obviously. Listen to some Ride The Lightning to listen to some proper thrash not some crap kids thinking they can rock out.
Terrible album, Ascendancy was soo much better and I only liked a few tracks from it.This Message Edited On 12.03.06

as stated earlier, i think you put to much thought about them trying to be like metallica. didn't like the review much, i'm a hardcore trivium fanatic, and it didn't sound like you came into this with an unbiased opinion. But i'm not gonna lie, Heafy needs to return to previous vocals. why does it seem like only haters post? i mean the cd couldn't be that bad, sold like 60k on release day in the Uk.This Message Edited On 12.04.06

That's fine and dandy, but your admission of being a hardcore Trivium fanatic makes your accusation of my bias biased in itself. Ironic, isn't it? Just because you didn't like the review doesn't mean it's a bad one. Nearly a hundred other people have rated it the same as me. I didn't know they would, but it just so happens that my opinion is a popular one around this site. I also didn't know they were going to sound like Metallica - I made that judgement when I listened to the entire album 10+ times.
Commercial success is also no way to judge the quality of music. To me, Trivium is the worst possible band to become the mainstream view of metal. If they were going to completely rip a band off they could've at least picked a better band than Metallica.
