All the shorter tracks here are straight fucking fire, ironically I think the title track is one of the weaker ones. Force Meets Presence sounds like if a thrash band did a metalcore track, Distract and Divide sounds like them trying their hand and a grind-ish track, To Feel Something is another emotional high point for me, the vocals are so damn good. I wanted Nate to step up a bit more and he really came through on that one. And that leaves the title track and Bad Faith… Bad Faith sounds like they’re doing a more modern metalcore track with them chunky ass riffs, pretty simplistic track for them but it goes insanely hard so no complaints. And then the title track… yeah I think it’s probably the weakest out of the ones I mentioned. I get an “I Can Tell You About Pain” vibe from it: both were lead singles for their albums, and honestly both just serve up Converge doing what they do best: headspinning guitarwork, Ben going ham behind the kit, and throat shredding vocals. I think the thing that stands out most about it is the solo right after the clean vocal section. Aside from that it’s pretty by the numbers for them.
Again, I think the album really shines with the longer and sludgier cuts. The last three songs are such an incredible way to close this thing out… and combined they make up like half the runtime lol

Gilded Cage is a big surprise to me, Jacob doesn’t usually get so specific about real world issues but I think he did great there, and honestly I wouldn’t mind if he got a little more political despite them never really being a “political” band. Distract and Divide is also a pretty obvious one, just not as “big”
