Nothing is disjointed here and on Heritage, I agree. Not their best works, but both are still great.

This is better than anything they did in the 90’s. More nuanced, more interesting and sounds better

Ik absolutely no-one would agree but ah well. Back in the 90’s they never captured my imagination and I still can’t get on board with the lauding of their 90’s albums. I love this though. I remember distinctly how much of a revelation they were me with Blackwater Park and enjoyed everything since but not before. I actually grouped Opeth with 3rd and the Mortal and My Dying Bride with that 90’s doom before BWP

Fair fair. But I will say, I didn’t enjoy those older records as much either at first but now they’re amongst my faves.

I've met the occasional person who likes their prog era more and I can see why. The songwriting is more dynamic and there's more technical prowess on display. But the older albums do have a certain charm to them

The run from Orchid to Watershed is unmatched but they've managed to do well in their modern era for sure.

I finished my fourth audition of the album. This is another amazing work of the band, maybe my favourite prog band at the moment. This guys never cesse to surprise and delight me.

It's one of the most agressive and dark albums from the band, not only due to growls and concept. It's varied, well ballanced and produced. I can see some problems of some of their older fans. Probabbly they expected an album more in vein with their older stuff due to the growls. But there's no return to that form. Maybe it can be a kind of a reminiscent of Watershed. This is a complex and intense album, a technically heavy and prog work, a real tour de force. Despite I love all tracks, I particularly highlight the opener and the closer. They're two completelly diferent pieces that show the two sides of the same coin, the balance of the death metal intensity with the progressive sophistication. This is another step forward in their amazing career.

A last thought. I like the drum work of their new drummer. It was a winning bet.
