I'm surprised he liked this so much, I feel like he's been lukewarm on this band for the most part. Broken clock I guess

"Real Emo" only consists of the dc Emotional Hardcore scene and the late 90's Screamo scene. What is known by "Midwest Emo" is nothing but Alternative Rock with questionable real emo influence. When people try to argue that bands like My Chemical Romance are not real emo, while saying that Sunny Day Real Estate is, I can't help not to cringe because they are just as fake emo as My Chemical Romance (plus the pretentiousness). Real emo sounds ENERGETIC, POWERFUL and somewhat HATEFUL. Fake emo is weak, self pity and a failed attempt to direct energy and emotion into music. Some examples of REAL EMO are Pg 99, Rites of Spring, Cap n Jazz (the only real emo band from the midwest scene) and Loma Prieta. Some examples of FAKE EMO are American Football, My Chemical Romance and Mineral EMO BELONGS TO HARDCORE NOT TO INDIE, POP PUNK, ALT ROCK OR ANY OTHER MAINSTREAM GENRE

There are a few great songs on this but a lot of it is just forgettable.

Yeah this might be a 3.5 actually the more that I think about it.
I hate to say it, but Fabric/Upon Loss and even Different Shade of Blue are hitting harder for me as of now.

the sameness and squeaky vox bring this down hard but I see some gains being made in the gym with this at the very least

I keep hearing complaints about the vocals, but tbh that's one of my favorite parts. It feels like he is so angry that he's ripping out his damn throat over and over again, it's metal as fuck.
A Tear In The Fabric is still my favorite, that just sounded more complete to me and so fucking dark.
If they ever top that, I'll lose my mind.
Although Blinding Faith is still the best track on here (Suffocate a close second) and is among their best tracks overall.

I think KL are going to need to be mindful of not falling back on variations of a theme as they go forward. There's good stuff on here, but it's hard to shake the notion that some of these songs are created from a KL "template".

Finally got to jam this the whole way through. Not bad, don't care for the features, but the singles still go. Like the Moss/Home segue and am glad they didn't abandon that lead and saw it through. Pretty cool.

Like botb said a few pages back, they're very polarizing. I hate how he sounds most of the time.

Vocals are fine. Listen to Brother's Keeper for the worst hc vocals of all time
