maybe I don't know if I'd describe it as such the hip hop influence can be heard on tracks throughout their catalog... it's on Streetcleaner it's on Pure it's on here it's on Us and Them
might have a touch of extra groove to it tho

been saying it for years I feel like Streetcleaner's classic landmark status causes so many to overlook the rest of this amazing discog, so it's always great to see more love going out to the rest of the catalog
it's got some of their best songs ("Christbait Rising" would probably be my prime example) but it's not actually their best record or anything
and s/t debut is essential so def don't miss that

'Christbait Rising' and 'Life is Easy' made the biggest impression on me today.
I've gone through the album discog for them but some albums I know a lot better than others - will revisit one at a time over the year I'd imagine, now that I've 5'd one of their albums.
The S/T EP is quality, 'Veins', 'Weak Flesh', 'Spinebender'...optimistic 4.5 rating incoming.

This EP is quite mind blowing for 1988, far heavier than Killing Joke etc up to this point.
Early Swans I've never got too into either.

was my one record purchase for the year, arrived quite late a couple months ago 'cus I guess Earache had a holiday sale and got overloaded with orders - so glad to have finally gotten my hands on it for the collection had that pupper sent across the friggin' Atlantic ^_^
check Cop... "Half Life" reminds me so much of Godflesh

That artwork on a record sleeve ha, nice purchase.
Yeah, I will maybe head to early Swans, seems necessary homework at the very least for someone who's listening to noise/industrial from the late '80s to mid '90s

imo their most heavily 'hip hop' influenced one was US AND THEM. One of the reasons it is also my least favorite. It feels way to derivative/synthetic, they'd been gently tip-toeing a line up to that point and finally went too far.
On another note, nice work on the s/t debut! Easily my second favorite GF release, and agreed re the 'heaviness' of it all, esp. for 1988. You can tell it was totally influenced by early Swans records like FILTH and COP but marries a thrumming, rhythmic pulse to it that is largely absent from those albums.

Ah ok, interesting, maybe I just found 'Love and Hate' a bit more direct/straightforward in general. Listening to the opener now and it definitely is going for groove.
UPDATE: 'Circle of Shit' seems like prob their most hip hop track up to this early stage of their career for sure.
