As a total layman who hasn't heard anything else by the band, Arch of the Sky is really fun. I suppose I will be blown away when I check their "good" material?

Above the Weeping World is their magnum opus and the pinnacle of their orginal vision. That imo is the quintessential Insomnium album that you can't miss. It's simply one of the greatest melodeath albums of all time. The albums that preceeded it were incredible but I feel ATWW is where Insomnium absolutely mastered the genre.

I like Winter's Gate as their magnum opus, and Since the Day is to me the best record out of the first 3. Love AtWW too, but it isn't their third best at best

ATWW gets my vote as their best as well.
Arthropod since you are a listener who is open to bands newer music from what I've seen I also recommend their modern 'epic' tracks like Heart Like a Grave, The Conjurer, Song of The Dusk, Karelia. Then there are also the modern singles which are good: Valediction, Neverlast, Lillian, The Witch Hunter.
At Winters Gate is also a thicc, full concept album done really well, but probably requires the most dedicated listening. ENjoy!

honestly all of the 8 albums before this one are great and worth your time. Personally Winters Gate is their best and a towering accomplishment but you could easily just go on your streaming platform of choice and put a playlist of all their discog on and get a bunch of bangers

Yesh, as middling as I feel Arch The Sky is, if you enjoy it you will surely enjoy the vast majority from their back catalogue. Even some of the later albums of theirs I don't particularly rate still have some absolute gems.

I do need to dive more into these guys discog. Melodeath is one of those genres I have one band I love and a lot of other melodeath is challenging for me
