@demon what im referring as far as "people who have no business hearing x/y/z" is when something gets an inexplicable amount of attention from people who either hated a genre or never heard it before, say blood incantation or that last defeated sanity. obviously i dont think it should be illegal to jam new shit but I'm always like "damn you have 15000 vaporwave bandcamp demos rated and dove into metal with this??"

anyway today i will listen to black mid. johnnys 3.3 has me feeling a strong 1.5 or a low 4.5
|
| |
such as the people whose first black metal record was deafheaven (eg me)
|
| |
i support gatekeeping btw

there are no 'correct' ways of getting into new shit, start wherever you want. You aren't required to take any specific path
everyone needs to start somewhere and if people are close-minded about whatever they just jumped into, then that's their loss / why did they even bother? etc.
|
| |
well deafheaven is old in pop terms and I think sunbather prolly is a good gateway for people who werent gonna check shit before that
i am not really into blackgaze regardless of the album artwork but theres trve metal dudes who got into music through shittier shit like korn back in like 1999 so you gotta start somewhere
|
| |
you can be as goodvibes as you want but i still think it's weird seeing certain albums get an inexplicable amount of attention on RYM. gateway albums and entry level shit make more sense to me than someone who likes blood incantation but assumes their influences must be racist boomer rock
|
| |
dont get me wrong though youll still find more good recs on RYM than this place
|
| |
and may i take this moment to also make fun of people who would hate any jazz fusion until finding out it's from japan and therefore based vidya game music
|
| |
lol rym removed soundtracks from the default chart now. People were complaining so much.

Bloody Incantation... that decidedly mid-ambient project yeah? Beats me
'dont get me wrong though youll still find more good recs on RYM than this place'
of course, I mean the database is huge in comparison... much easier to find new shit
|
| |
lol dude i forgot about that ambient shit
i meant all the buzz surrounding hidden histories, the 2019 record. and hey i dug that record quite a bit. but i will forever be confused by anyone who claims thats like, the only dm worth hearing
of course sputnik has like residual KILL spirit leftover from his time here so you pretty much always see the OG shit getting bumped here
|
| |
but hell ive been bitching about this shit like abe simpson ever since i met a guy in high school who liked municipal waste but didnt like any 80s thrash
|
| |
obviously people are allowed to think like, bongzilla is better than sabbath if they want to but i also am allowed to roast them on a music nerd forum. keep hostility alive
|

I always want to know where things came from, and what influenced genres and styles as they progressed, so I think it’s generally a good approach to always know the history of things.
most people just listen to things they like tho, I get that that kind of deep understanding isn’t always what everyone is looking for.
I still think it’s lazy tho.
|
| |
damn 6 pm and i still didnt listen to this band
|
| |
don’t waste your time
|
| |
and yeah i mean most regular ass people dont get genre fixations whatsoever. if i was 19 its entirely possible id be cool with opeth but think camel is for boomers
|
| |
haha yeah i mostly came in here to stir up some dookie cause i noticed johnny and company were in here stinkin up the place. might check that new lil yacht though...
|

Those """people""" (can you call them people?) are the lowest of the low, and should be feathered and tarred, if you ask me.
