To Tgreenz455's point. I enjoy the guitar work here more too because they've leaned into more frequent technical playing. The balance Greyhaven strike here between the technical, open sections, and slower groove sections, is perfect.

I jammed Ornaments probably a hundred times (no hyperbole) before the album dropped lmao

Yeah out of all the excellent heavy stuff on here, that one is still my fav.

I would’ve loved to hear Ornaments for the first time after jamming the full album. I blame the label for making it a single and partly myself for not having self control lol

great review, great record. This sounds like ETID mixed with Norma Jean, and I'm here for it.

I don't understand the requirement for a complete abolition of anything approaching catchy music in a core record. People fawn over Puciato's cleans and pop choruses combined with a heavy dose of chaotic technicality, but of course it absolutely isn't allowed to be done by anyone else.

I knew nothing about this band going in but it definitely seems pretty well executed for the most part. Whatever your preferred tipple in core, this certainly isn't butt rock. Lol. Also imagine thinking this DOESN'T sound like ETID...

(but yeah that ain't a bad thing, at all)

Thinking it doesn't sound like etid is avoiding the obvious. Allthough, I agree the comparison is becoming tiring, I refuse to let someone get away by thinking it doesn't sound like etid. Sure they have a slightly different and postish vibe but even dressing/ looking alike is not helping XD

I also really like this guy's vocal harmonies. All things considered, though, this band won't ever be as challenging as ETID, and much less as tDEP, in a writing (chaotic) perspective

Let's all agree, though, that the bar of success is not "most complex." They aren't necessarily trying to make noise homework with to-the-brim math riffs. At least to my taste they strike a very satisfying balance between hard/melodic, with neither side ever feeling like it's interfering with the other.

Listened prob over a dozen times now and still find every track pretty thrilling. I don't see anything on the horizon that could challenge this one as my aoty

I will die on the hill that this hardly sounds like etid lmao. Such a lazy comparison to me. Far more melodic, varied, and restrained than etid ever was. And yeah, these choruses are pretty butt rock (just like a lot of dillinger's were)... doesn't mean that's a negative.

I see like 90% of all clean or catchy choruses being labeled as "butt rock" and at this point I don't even understand what it's supposed to mean.

For me the butt rock thing comes from the dude's voice more than anything. Like if they just randomly decided to go full three days grace or something on the next album the dude absolutely has the right voice for it. All these choruses are huge too and go ham with the harmonies.

yep, that's the point. In reality I doubt it rarely ever MEANS anything, just seems to be a catch-all term for cleans finding their way into music that people think shouldn't have cleans in it. Shit is beyond stupid.
