The Gnashing was a 4.5/5 song before this dropped but as I and some others have stated, it’s definitely been played with in the studio since release. Man that song is fantastic and the bass is the most delicious there than most of the album. They really improved the singles in this full release. They were already great songs but even if you doubted them before the album, give them another spin. They really went all out on this album for real.

My tastes have changed so much. I was probably 22 and the walking dead was a new show and I was playing Dead Island lol

Okay but your 5 is justified when you literally take off half a day of work to “take your cat to the vet” just to listen to this album on repeat. That’s how badly I couldn’t wait to get back to it lol. It was a 5 first listen. Even stronger now. As I’ve said, Sunbather is only better because I’ve had 8 years to connect to it. I bet in 8 years’ time, this might even overthrow it. This album is just unreal to me. If people don’t like it, cool, their choice. But man, for me, I can’t describe how much I love it. I just wanna listen to it and only it all the time. I had a few albums lined up to listen to but that’s scrapped for the weekend cuz all I want is this album lol. It’s… just… indescribable for me. I’d go onto say it’s “perfect” but y’all’d probably give me even more backlash lol

I kinda do to be fair, I don't like 1's right off the bat but that's just me and my own problems , I should be more open to people thinking something is as bad as a 1 on something I like.

Personally the reasons why I'd 1 something tend to surface a lot more immediately then the reasons I'd 5 something - more of a visceral response. Nowadays it's v rare that an album will impress me enough early on to get above a 4 but if folks have strong reactions on first listens that's their hairdo

I can get 1’s sometimes but on albums like this, I just don’t. Serious time and effort went into it and it shows. I try not to rate 1’s unless I absolutely have to. Lol. And they’re usually universal 1’s. If I really hate something I will do a 1.5. But I do give it time as well. Unless you’re Foxing’s Nearer My God but that’s like my only exception and I apologize for that. But my rating stands firm lol :p. Yes, Sowing I know you love that one. And so that’s the only one I genuinely apologize for. But suffice to say, 5 years later I’m still feeling the same way. So it holds

I feel overall I’m a very lenient grader but I don’t really dish out 5’s easily at all. This one just deserves it

Your take on NMG really bothered me in the beginning.. but in the end it is still my favorite and hardest hitting record of the past decade. You can’t please everyone with subjective views.

It's also a little psychological I guess. If someone attacks a record that you're very passionate about, you just feel attacked yourself.
