I didnt like Cody or find Terrible Thing interesting on first listen.

West Hills, Quiet Town, Sleepwalker, In the Car Outside, In Another Life, and the title track are what lit this up for me.

The Getting By is pretty neat too

Oh man the last 1:50 of "In the Car Outside" is amazing. It evokes such a mixture of imagery. It's almost as if the protagonist knows full well that his infidelity is morally sinful - and his wife probably doesn't deserve to be cheated on - but in the heat of the moment between him and his mistress, the sheer sense of euphoric healing from a damaged marriage outweighs the guilt and regret he will have later. To him and his "flickering high-school flame," this moment feels like a beautiful new beginning, a chance to turn the page; but deep down, they both know that this isn't really the case.

To top it all off, this rush of euphoria, nostalgia, bittersweetness, melancholy, and remorse is soundtracked - spoken, even, without a single word - by a gorgeous outro jam that feels like the aural equivalent of dashing down a Rocky Mountain highway on a starlit night.

There are no words to describe how vehemently I hate that little bit of dialogue at the start of "Cody", but the song more than makes up for it

but is the estranged family blues vehicle actually fast or is that more a reflection of the wider rates of change in the protagonist's dusty lil life?

I also said Cody was the best but it's like bottom 3 for me atm. In The Car Outside is maybe their best song. In Another Life, Desperate Things and t.t, West Hills, and Quiet Town are all incredible too
