Darkthrone was the only one with a straight up no frills rock n roll/punk approach. They even had fucking cowbell on ABITNS lol

And darkthrone were not the only ones with easy access to a studio. Varg was doing old funeral before burzum. Enslaved formed from the ashes of phobia. Most of these guys were already doing death metal/thrash in the 80s before converting to bm in the early 90s

>Blaze has RIFFS/what something like Mayhem's Deathcrush EP has over it
bruh they all have riffs, deathcrush has 5 years on it and nothing but bathory for inspiration
bathory, mayhem, immortal, burzums about equal, hellhammer/celtic frost, emperor etc are all vastly superior

>only one with a straight up no frills rock n roll/punk approach
yea hence it not being an amazing style of bm which is what ive been saying
>only ones with easy access to a studio
darkthrone were the only ones who rec'd an lp before and already had a deal/knew how to produce a full length album, thus had the resources to be the first
>were already doing death metal/thrash in the 80s
well yeah by necessity they all took inspiration from bathory that they all started with dm isnt the point
once again none of which detracts from the fact darkthrone piggybacked off everyone elses efforts only to create the most generic of all of them

for sure the spirit is there 100% i just dont see them as distinct in sound as some of dthrone. likwise with apocalytic raids and in the sign of evil

lol i thought u said freezing moon nvm
not distinct? he never made the same album twice, unlike the throne
|

Darkthrone have never made the same album twice lol. The two closest in sound are probably FOAD and dark thrones and black flags but they have evolved consistently throughout their career
"darkthrone were the only ones who rec'd an lp before and already had a deal/knew how to produce a full length album, thus had the resources to be the first"
Anyone who was working with euronymous had easy access to recording and distributing albums. All of these guys had the same opportunities

distinct relative to other established styles

blaze to hunger are all the same generic style, not talking about anything else where they obv keep switching bc fenriz gets bored, hence abandoning their own bm style once things like de mysteriis and nightside eclipse started getting a proper studio session just like they abandoned dm when they had a new toy to play with
yes bc euronymous who had a total of 3 record label releases by the end of 92 could compete with peaceville records thats why darkthrone signed with him o wait
still none of this has to do with the original point im not denying they were first among the norwegian kvlt to have a bm lp assuming burzum's was after march 2nd
>distinct relative to other established styles
lol what no ones ever replicated bathory

first 2 bathory LPs are just garage thrash albums with raspy vocals

If we're gonna argue about foundational black metal bands changing their sound can we at least have the pleasure of discussing Enslaved and Borknagar
