My issue with this band, aside from the overreliance on low string abuse, is that the choppy transitions and near random/stream of consciousness style writing are kind of a cop out for having to actually develop musical ideas. It's technically impressive what they do, but not that fun to listen to, even as a huge fan of chaotic music.

purposefully and tastefully chopped transitions aside the way you view what they express is very myopic when it comes to viewing songwriting. If you’re a fan of chaos as you say then fall into it further. Their music flows as well as a run through a jungle goes and that’s an example of real-life tempos and flows and that to me feels more natural and rigid structures.

Million has Spiritual Unity 5d, so I’d say he’s qualified from a “chaos” point of view lol

the chaotic carpet-pull of life vs. the chaotic "jfc they shoehorned *another* chorus" of eternal ballache

"myopic" I mean, they're really not that deep. I *understand* what they're doing and it's just not great to me compared to myriad other chaotic bands that I feel articulate themselves in more lasting and musical ways. The chopped n skrewed breakdowns are pretty much their whole shtick. I'm more into Ad Nauseam or Artificial Brain or Ulcerate. I think if they had more songs that felt like Gratitude off of Meta, I'd be more of a fan.

well “my bad” if that offended you. it’s fine if you’re not won over, but you’re not one to speak of “lasting”, “musical” ways, that would reveal itself over time and they clearly got more support since Meta. To reduce them to a schtick is exactly what I meant by “myopic”, even so when you’re trying to do a 1:1 with tech death when they’re not that similar in DNA. Heavy modulations in tones, effects, compouding meters, and tempo is not something you find as holistically fused and done wel as how these guys crafted their sound. If you want them to have choruses like Gratitude, then they definitely have them, it’s just all varied within their changes, ie Vague Skies, XOXOY, Hela

Agreed. It's easy to hate on this band if certain aspects identified early on deter you enough to not spend an extended amount of time with their output. I think it's fair to criticize them for their - on a superficial level - disjointed style of writing on that basis. See also this here rev, the key points of which are expounded well imo. However, denying them their musicality or, more specifically, their ability to "actually develop musical ideas" is a moot point when they've demonstrated exactly that in the past. They just choose not to write what most people would consider 'cohesive' songs (it's cohesive alright tho). In all likelihood, Gratitude wasn't the hardest song they've ever written. This perceived mess some users are describing is obviously minutely calculated. Not gonna argue taste if you don't enjoy what they're offering, but bad composers they are not.

That said, just give me the first 20 secs of Third Revelation on loop.

"they’re both as “sloppy” but they’re literally not."

meant that more so to say meta just comes together a little more "conventionally" for lack of better term, and def feels like the easier intro to the band of the two... tho i think today i prefer this one
