only you know and masquerade are about all i like but i haven’t listened to all of it at once. even when it seems like they’re being different, it ends up feeling super safe and predictable. not even someone that necessarily wants them to do something way different, just aware of the attempts and bored by most of them

i don’t find the density of the mixes to be impressive, i much prefer what i consider to be melodic beach house which is all of DC / some bloom songs / some songs from this / some songs from teen dream. and i guess only you knew, masquerade, ESP is ok too but i don’t like the lyrics

the mixes on this album and DC are absolutely their best; not thrilled by the new one's at all

yeah mixing is probably at least 50% of my problem with it. vocals sound strange and make me feel like they’re too loud, though that could also be the tone she kind of clings to the entire time, never really changes but is usually present. my friend said that the first batch of songs reminded them of Broadcast in ways and i wish i heard that

on new one not this to clarify. i agree that the mixing on this is actually great on pretty much the whole thing

this being “hi-fi” isn’t why it’s good necessarily but either way it doesn’t sound like the new one to me. no song on OTM has the warmth of dark spring

oh ok my b i thought you were responding to me
yeah for sure this one was definitely the beginning of them being mega-produced. for whatever reason that was never rly my issue with this one, but i might just like the songs more. dark spring / lemon glow / drunk in LA / lose your smile go hard

just went through it all again without trying to focus too much on it and man runaway has to be one of their worst ever songs. pink funeral is almost good but the vox and lyrics especially just ruin it for me. superstar is like a beach house AI wrote it in beta

"I feel like Victoria is more than ever trying to use her voice as sort of a textural addition to the instrumentation"
not convinced by this tbh, if anything it [Part One] feels like she's trying to be a more traditional frontwoman and leaning less on the textural side. I don't think the clear-cut mix flatters her at all this way; her best moments all seep into the rest of the song rather than cutting themselves out (Lose Your Smile a lovely examplecounterpoint all round)
