I still listen to this regularly. Pretty easy to slip it in the rotation, you know.

Seeing these guys this evening. I'm already stoked for Tesseract and The Hirsch Effekt. Jinjer are there too, they shouldn't be too bad either

Saw these guys yesterday and I am very satisfied. They played songs from all albums and the live setting made me appreciate the songs from One a lot more. They also ayed Juno as a closer, really nice!

Dan was working really hard, but he sounded good despite the strain at some points. Ashe's songs were really hard tho, he altered the melodies in some places to make it easier. The instrumentalists were amazing, Daj was good.

Yeah nothing he can do but alter Ashe's melodies a bit. Dan was putting in a ton of effort to hit all the right notes last time I saw him and he nailed it, whereas it was hit or miss a few years back. They put on a really good show these days.

Agreed. Dan is very consistent these days and even does (his own) very challenging songs (Juno) justice by pretty much performing it by the note

Yeah I don't think he should ever be knocked for having a tough time with Ashe's parts. Nothing you can do about a guy having a naturally higher register.

True but even Ashe couldn't do these songs consistently lol. Dan isn't the best vocalist in the world and I'm nit sure how sustainable his style is atm, but he does a good job at delivering good performances

Yeah I think I mentioned way earlier in this thread that he seems like he was going out of his way to guarantee that he wouldn't be able to nail these songs in a few years. I'm not a singer but a couple of these seem like they are probably in the upper echelon of most difficult songs they have.

Honestly, Ashe was not good live, save for the easier songs. He was a clear studio vocalist for me and tbh i'm not even that big on his really really high pitch

Since his voice is so high to begin with, really high notes don't really stand out and therefore don't feel as rewarding as if someone with a generally lower voice pulls them off (Dan for example)

Y'all listen to Unprocessed before?

Cause their last album and new singles, to me, scratched my Tesseract itch way more than Sonder did.

I gave this album few relistens instead and it holds up pretty well. Mirror image/Beneath my skin is still my favourite from these guys

They can't scratch my tesseract itch, because they aren't Tesseract. But I'll check it.

Do you mean the songs on here? Idk tbh I never tried to sing Tesseract songs, but Dan often does this breathy thing and if he does it too frequently it will cause damage. And many rock singers put strain on their voices, it kind of expected in the genre tbh, so even cleans can be very taxing on rock singers. Some freaks have very resilient voices though and smoke, drink and scream for 30 years without any decline, but these are exceptions (like Devin Townsend or Mike Patton). Sometimes there is some tension in Dan's face, that's gonna make him tired faster.

But overall don't think Dan will burn out that fast though. We'll have to see, but he seems to be at least a little aware of vocal health (many rock and metal fans aren't and they don't like hearing the truth you know? There is no science out there suggesting that harsh vocals are safe in any way, but there is quite some pseudoscience and it's incredibly popular. Oh geez, I guess I have to reply to this guy in the Contortionist thread ...)

...

okay, rant over.

tl:dr Dan does some unhealthy things, idk how much it will affect him though. And tbf almost no singer except for Pavarotti had perfect technique, so ...

i agree Dan seems to be cognizant of his vocal health. I have always wondered how much thought goes into longevity and performance with some of the more talented singers. maybe they just try to put out the best they can every time, idk.
