last year was fucking amazing, but i guess not if you don't like metal. and obviously i'm talking in terms of "so far." i pretty much assumed that was common sense?

21 pilots is worse than this fam, let's be real.
most people would say they're nothing alike but i actually kinda think otherwise in a few certain ways...

i'm not saying there isn't worse music out there, but there isn't worse music that i've ever chosen to listen to, and i hope to not repeat the same mistake.

" i guess not if you don't like metal"
a bit 50/50 on metal
some decent releases last year, some absolutely horrendous ones (see: the new Opeth)

plus last summer was absolutely barren
this summer on the other hand looks to be one of the best in years

New Opeth had one pretty good track, second track I think? The one with the rlly groovy bassline. Maybe I'm more lenient with their new output because I never jammed their black metal era stuff.

last year was one of the best years for extreme metal in a while.

Difficult to categorize 2016 Opeth as metal.
"last year was one of the best years for extreme metal in a while."
[2] no doubt about that.

This record has grown on me, still, it's way too stagnant and two dimensional for it's own good, for instance I loved the single Real Love Baby and there isn't even remotely a track like it on this record. Album is too bloated for it's own good and not nearly enough variety.

Last year was great. This year is shaping to be good too. This album sucks though.

This year is immense, a lot of lyrically dense venting going down (this, Sleaford Mods, Mount Eerie, Sun Kil Moon). I can see why people would find all this stuff a turn off though.

Same for me Sowing - it's taken some patience, but I'm finding this quite rewarding.

This will probably be the rating I settle on tbh.

It's no Honeybear but it's still a great composition despite its overall lethargy and homogenous songwriting style. There are enough little subtleties to separate the tracks and Tillman's vocal/lyrical talent can't be overstated.
