chorus is passable. it could definitely be much better and if it was the song would be pretty fantastic.
Production definitely feels better than this album so that's cool.

it feels like a really odd pick for a single

Never really listened to these guys but damn, they sure seem to be popular here. They blew up when I was a teenager and Sing the Sorrow, but they just seemed really emo. And I didn’t like any of the singles.
Are the singles pretty representative of their overall sound? Just wondering if I should give them a shot.

umm it depends which singles. Have you heard The Days of The Phoenix? That's a great starter to see if you'll actually dig them.
If I could give you 3 to check out beyond singles, try This Celluloid Dream, Paper Airplanes, and The Despair Factor.

They are pretty emo but very good and they've changed quite a bit over the years. Non-singles I'd recommend are The Great Disappointment, The Boy Who Destroyed The World, The Despair Factor, 6 To 8, But Home Is Nowhere, It Was Mine, A Winter's Tale, Rabbits Are Roadkill.

I feel like if this same exact album would have been released in 2003, it would have gotten rave reviews.

But Sowing, you're forgetting that it was not released in 2003. In 2003 they released their magnum opus that blows this out of the water. I'm sure I could have appreciated this more in 2003, but in 2016 it sounds boring.

I'm not forgetting about StS, just saying that this style was more warmly received in the early 2000s.

and then the weaker songs are still fantastic. Davey crushes the opening of White Offerings and then just give you the same chorus one hundred times and drowns you in it. Band is genius.

i made my ranking for this but it glitched out and I've been too lazy to do it since. but i'll get to it before the EP.
This album is more of a 3.8 as opposed to my 4.2 when it came out. I think Burials did the opposite for me
