Even if they're more about the political message than the music, it's still your job as a reviewer to critique all aspects of the music equally. If the music is lackluster, you have to focus on that. Objectivity is just as important as passion.

If there's not a lot to discuss about an album bar its lyrical topics, dedicate one paragraph soley to the lyricism, make it concise and snappy, then leave another paragraph to discuss the instrumentals. It's super simple, and a great way to get the point across without rambling.

I agree with the review entirely. sadie switchblade (or whatever the fuck she calls herself) is a caricature, not an artist or activist. if you like Gloss, then you don't like music. you like a message. you like to feel like you're a part of something. you don't actually appreciate art.



Gloss, when you get right down to its core, is a generic hardcore band with no memorable qualities aside from being obnoxiously in your face about their cause. which is fine, but they don't deserve the praise or the hype based on the message alone, especially when the music is pretty terrible. so many "queercore" bands have been doing a better job for years. fuck gloss

I think the point was that Transgender issues are still currently in a struggle. To simply pass this off and call it stupid, whiny complaining I think is pretty careless of you. I get it is still 2016 and everything is a meme, but I think some real respect needs to be shown in being open not in a default sense, but more sympathetic sense to the struggles of those who are Transgender and the issues that face them in regards to acceptance and mis-identification.

I don't think any of it is anti anything, more so G.L.O.S.S. are just pointing out fucked up contradictions we make up in valuing other things over others, and they get the butt end of the trade.
