O shit I have an audience I was not prepared for this

Basically, Deathspell Omega are immediately appealing to me because of their 'controlled chaos' approach to music--you see that with bands like Dillinger Esc Plan, just used to a different effect. These guys have riffs coming and going and tempo changes flying all around the place. It's very engaging to hear just so many choices happening, all done deliberately to move along the song and mesh well with every aspect of the band's sonic output.

They nail that sort of hazy, distant black metal production that some bands just completely drop the ball on. Each track still hits hard and has a delightfully insane sort of atmosphere accompanying it, really bringing you down into the murky, dark depths of an abyss. The vocals punctuate through all the instrumentation with obscure, but very philosophical and poetic lyrics.

I think one of their strongest assets is their ability to distinguish tracks from each other so easily. If you just listen to one song by them, you can peel apart so many different layers, and each time you revisit an album of theirs you always seem to discover something new: a secondary guitar riff underneath the main one, or some sort of background noise that subtlety adds to the atmosphere. Their music is incredibly complex and it's thrilling to immerse yourself into it.

Yeah I'm gonna miss a bunch from this year. Imma try and use 2017 to catch up if there's nothing interesting happening.
