Hopefully the rumored double album is better than this release.

Is Terminal Redux the golden standard of metal for 2016? Cause that album really wasn't that impressive IMO. Nice riffs but meh in general to me.

I didn't dig much of Terminal Redux outside of the riffs either and as amazing as TDEP was, I wouldn't even call it a metal record, more like spazzy punk.

New DEP was weak. I feel like Meshuggah went hard this year and stole the crown. As for this album....its just a chore to listen to.

How are you guys even comparing this to DEP or Vektor? They have nothing in common besides the fact they all use guitars. This album slays though.

Why does that make them uncomparable?

Obviously they're all different but they all came out this year, so why not say which ones you liked more than the other?

I think Vektor has a slight edge on this album for me if we're speaking in terms of which one I enjoy more. Objectively, Terminal Redux is probably a better album.

I mean obviously you can say you liked one more than the other, but comparing them musically is just silly since they're all very different types of albums. My favorite of the 3 is TDEP, followed by this, then Vektor. I've never been too big on thrash though, so it's no surprise I didn't love Vektor.

I made the Dillinger comparison just to point out that Dillinger is a band that actually makes dense music that takes time to digest, which is what A7X is claiming they did with this album. Yeah, sorry, no. It might not be as god-awful as their previous work but it's still instant-gratification arena metal, yet they're acting like they've made some high-brow piece of art.

"which is what A7X claimed they did with this album"

They claimed it because that's pretty much exactly what they did. A good amount of their core fans are hating this album because it isn't super accessable or easy to digest.

I mean my favorite release this year was Stillworld by Invent, Animate. A lot of people sleeping on that album

I mean my AOTY only has 19 votes and no reviews. I wouldn't say almost 100 votes and a well written review is being slept on
