I just don't like the whimpy nature of Alpha, but this brings the riffs back HARD.

yeah Alpha is like the songbird first act of a play and then shit goes south in context of the story and act 2 just gets dark as fuck

I mean it literally too, this album tells an actual story, it's so far been the only time they've done that other than P1 which also has a story if you believe it

Yeah, Alpha is the only one I don't dig at all after jamming the first five albums. About to go for P4 now.

Listened to this again after a long time, such a big record. Spencer does sound so much more whiny here than on later records though, he has been improving so much still, and when I heard this I already thought he sounded so much better than on P II

Spencer's voice is definitely an acquired taste but I think what he lacks in technical ability (which in some ways is quite a bit...) he makes up for by having so much character and confidence. Was relistening to this Double Album and really came to appreciate his vocal style a lot more than I did previously. I think its also partly why I'm not big on P5 and Pale White Dot. Feels like he's been somewhat subdued the last couple of records.
