I still need to hear 1 of their LP's, but it's def the weakest out of what I've heard. Still not bad though.

Even discounting their black metal era albums (you know that's not my thing) it's still definitely not their weakest for me.

messe is imo the first album from Ulver, at least since the black metal trilogy, that is not "out of nowhere". It's just so predictable and so dark and gloomy that together with the ridiculous titles and the band image makes it almost (?) a self-parody. Don't get me wrong it's a fine listen but also very boring. Especially the vocal parts, these are just lazy.

Not at all. Messe was a big change from what preceded it.

Also the vocal parts are executed brilliantly and are undoubtedly among the high points of that album.
