'Preciate it. Also, you were one of the last people I suspected of owning his music physically with your "Ruh roh" complaints (which actually inspired this inquiry, I was wondering whether his lyrics also went into that direction).

seems like it depends on the version you get?

1. Reissue of the s/t came in a regular plastic CD case. It had a foldout booklet on the inside of which was basically a wall of text across three of the sections that contained all the lyrics. I think the titles were bolded and otherwise mixed in with all rest of the text.

2. Social Disservices came in like one of those cardboard foldout things with the CD slide inside one of the sides. It came with a single piece of paper with lyrics on the first side, and an explanation for the concept of the album/criticism of the country's mental health/social services systems.

3. Roads to the North came in another cardboard thingy but no lyrics page.

also what ruh roh comments? now I gotta go back and look fuuuuu

edit: oh you mean FIGHT THA POWUH??? I know his s/t was really "anarchist Odin"-y. Disservices is about kids who get screwed by social services and crappy parents I think, bc apparently Austin worked in social services for a while and liked helping kids but thought the system screw them.

Nah, you don't.

Here you go:"

you know how I complained about him overusing that stompy, fist-pumpy "fight thuh powuh!" mid-paced rhythm section on every album? Well it seems like half the new song is in that vein rofl. I don't hate it tho and I dig the atmosphere."

Oh well, good that I don't belong to the type of dipshits that believe that you have to know your music in and out to "properly appreciate it".

That was an offhand comment implying that I don't need to know the lyrics to every song to appreciate the music while making fun of people who believe that you need to know every little circumstance about an artist/their music/their genre to "appreciate it".

new song is streaming:

I said after this album came out I'd either like to see Austin experiment with more post-rocky stuff or go crust punk, and it seems like he's slightly going for the former with the new album. A lot of atmosphere and synthesizers. The album will probably be too long like always, but I'm actually excited for it after hearing the new track omg.

and the mixing is really weird but it weirdly works. The rhythm guitar is like blurred into the bass and the vocals are buried too. At the very least it'll have a way different sound than anything else he's done. I think this comes out next week too :D

There's also that re-mixed Social Disservices that's supposed to be in the works, but I haven't heard anything about that in a long time.

Social Disservices is pretty meh.

New album sounds like it's gonna slay though. Nice to see he's kinda switching the style up a little bit again.

yeah I think Austin produced Disservices himself and said on facebook a while back that he thought it sounded like crap, so he gave the masters to the guy who mixed this album and had him slowly work on making them better. I assume the redo will be put out after Autumn Eternal. I liked the idea he was going for on that album (EVIL BLAST BEATS OF ANGRYNESS) but it didn't have the right mixing to actually sound evil or mean. Redo should be pretty sweet.

I don't like Kentucky bc the bluegrassiness sounds awkward and the flutes are annoying and I think the bm sounds kinda generic, like he has his own distinct style that he reproduces in different ways on each album but that one imo just sounded like generic bm with all his other junk on top. Not natural at all. Disservice was OK blasty bm with blackgaze but the production was junk. The redo should be much much better. I mean neither's terrible but they're not really noteworthy imo. I think everyone else liked Kentucky tho so what do I know.

You don't mean that as one of those classic Crysis "minus 2 for that triad which seemingly came out of nowhere at 4:52 on the third track" things, right? Hahaha

Haha nope don't mean it like that at all. He just tried so hard to make a good combination of bluegrass and black metal that he forgot to make either of them any good and also forgot to combine them.

It was bluegrass and black metal. They might have been in the same room but they were sitting in opposite corners.
