"I'm surprised how many people have serious qualms with the lyrics here. Who listens to Protest the Hero for the lyrical content? Sure, I get that Fortress had more badass ones-- but I find that the tunes here make the sometimes sub-par lyricism worth it. And shit, they're hilarious in songs like A Life Embossed. Whether or not that was intentional on their part, I don't know, but I'm able to at least make the most out of it, for better or worse."

The lyrics take away from the seriousness of the music and make it sound kind of campy, in my opinion at least. I'm the last person to give a shit about lyrics, but these are lol-bad, pretentious drivel. While instrumentally, this album is at least a bit interesting, the vocals in general are just mad boring and mixed by a handicapped baboon, as it seems. Gaahhhh....the mix....I could go on more about that, but I won't.....I can't care enough.

There are certainly other issues that arise on this record. They're nothing new with these guys, though.

personally i would find it hard to take this seriously just because of the vocals, period. it reminds me of cheesy power metal vocals. regardless, this still slays. it's fun.

I always picture Avenged Sevenfold just getting a better rhythm section....and well...not being completely terrible. After a few listens I don't mind this album. It's a fun album, but it's got a lot of pretty large and unavoidable flaws. I personally don't mind Protest The Hero, but the fans are just obnoxious. I think sometimes my indifference translates as dislike...oh well.

Fortress and Kezia are still a hell of a lot better than this. I will say this beats Scurrilous, though.
